Turner Hall Ballroom is the only venue in town available for private events that can boast a true rock and roll pedigree. With its weathered walls and history, it truly has a character all its own. Located in the heart of downtown, the two-story, 7,000 – plus square foot Turner Hall Ballroom is a central hub for a vast array of events in the city of Milwaukee. Turner Hall Ballroom features a variety of customizable options that can make your wedding as unique as the space that’s hosting it.
Ann Birkbine has been running Turner Hall Ballroom for as long as we can remember. She is the Private Events Coordinator and takes great pride in the space she represents. She knows how unique a space Turner Hall Ballroom is and can always recognize the couples who are the perfect fit for its character. We had a chance to sit down with one of our favorite friends in the industry to hear more about her favorite aspect of Turner Hall Ballroom weddings.
What is your favorite adult beverage? Tito’s and seltzer with lime.
What is your favorite junk food? Anything fried and served with a dipping sauce!
What is your favorite animal? It’s a tie between dogs, llamas, and sloths! I have a Maltese/Yorkie mix named Zoey, so I’m a little biased.
What do you like to do with friends and family? I love to see bands with friends and coworkers and I like doing fun stuff in Bay View!
What is your favorite wedding trend? Long bridesmaid dresses.
Fun Facts about Turner Hall Ballroom:
Turner Hall was built in 1882 and was originally a German community center with a gym and dancehall. In its history, it has had two fires, which gives the space a unique texture and character.
What kinds of couples are drawn to Turner Hall Ballroom?
Turner Hall is a great match for couples who are looking to customize the venue for their wedding. There’s so much flexibility in how you can use the space. Turner Hall hosts about 25% weddings and 75% concerts, and the venue has a very rock & roll vibe. You can even get dressed in the same green room the bands use!
What services do you offer?
Turner Hall provides bar services, an onsite coordinator for the day, setup crew, house manager, security staff, and tech staff.
What is your favorite thing about Turner Hall Ballroom weddings?
I love the wide variety of wedding couples and styles we get to see. It’s always inspiring to see how the couples and their wedding planners re-imagine and customize the space for a one-of-a-kind event.
What should couples know before picking a venue?
Before picking your wedding venue, make sure you think about logistics. Find out what the venue offers, what services you’ll need to hire additional vendors for, and make sure everyone knows who is responsible for which tasks.
We love Turner Hall Ballroom for so many reasons, but the myriad of amazing backdrops and settings for couples is definitely high on that list. The interior has so many options between the ballroom itself, hallways, the green room, the attic…the list goes on. When you throw in the rooftop option (which looks amazing almost any time of day) and the surrounding neighborhood, we are constantly inspired and finding new beautiful ways to photograph couples in and around this memorable space.
